PI90029: DB2 ADMIN TOOL - ***DATA LOSS *** ALT ON PBG TS TO NUMPARTS RESULTS IN DATA LOSS WHEN FOREGROUND OPTION IS USED.

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• From panel ADB21S, ALT in front of a partition by growth
  tablespace and override the NUMPARTS from x to x+1. Panel
  ADB27CTC "Alter - SQL or Batch" is displayed and prompts:
  
   The requested changes can all be performed using DB2 command
   and SQL  statements.
  
   Select a choice:
     1 - Perform the DB2 command and SQL statements in foreground
     2 - Generate a batch job
  
  Must have ALTOPTS (panel ADBP7P ALTER Analysis Options)
  Perform analysis in batch . . . . . . . NO
  
  Choosing 1, Perform the DB2 command and SQL statements in
  foreground, results in a drop/create tablespace and the loose
  of data. Batch option works fine.
  

Local fix

• Use Batch option.

  Increasing number of partitions in PBG using ALT function
  results in data loss when foreground option is used. The
  tool should not allow to choose the foreground option but
  force the batch processing which saves the data.
