PI89449: THE LOG DATA SET CAN BE LEFT ORPHANED BY PRF DURING A BMP OR A DLI RESTART WITH AUTOXRST=NO

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Conditions leading up to the failure where the LOG data set,
  CTDSHLQ.jobname.imsgroup.psbname.pgmname.LOG is left orphaned:
  1. An IMS BMP or DLI batch job is submitted and ends abnormally
     (abends).
  2. The following CTDSs remain for restarting:
     CTDSHLQ.jobname.imsgroup.psbname.pgmname.CTA
     CTDSHLQ.jobname.imsgroup.psbname.pgmname.CTB
  3. The job is resubmitted with AUTOXRST=YES and then abends
     before issuing the first checkpoint call.
  4. The following CTDSs remain for restarting:
     CTDSHLQ.jobname.imsgroup.psbname.pgmname.CTA
     CTDSHLQ.jobname.imsgroup.psbname.pgmname.CTB
     CTDSHLQ.jobname.imsgroup.psbname.pgmname.LOG
  5. The job is resubmitted with AUTOXRST=NO and then ends
     successfully.
  6. The log data set,
     CTDSHLQ.jobname.imsgroup.psbname.pgmname.LOG, is left orphan.

  The LOG data set is allocated by a BMP or DLI batch job that
  undergoes restart processing with AUTOXRST=YES. The data set is
  used to hold the checkpoint data and restart information that is
  used by IMS during restart, and is deleted automatically after
  taking the first CHKP call from the BMP or DLI batch job with
  AUTOXRST=YES. If the restarted BMP or DLI batch job with
  AUTOXRST=YES terminates abnormally before taking the first CHKP
  call, the LOG data set remains for retry. Then, if the BMP or
  DLI batch job with AUTOXRST=NO is run, the LOG data set can be
  left orphaned since PRF does not care for the LOG data set for
  any IMS batch job with AUTOXRST=NO.
  In addition, the LOG data set can be left orphaned when you
  delete CTDS with D command on Administer Abended/Active Jobs
  panel.
  

Problem conclusion

• PRF has been changed to delete the LOG data set in the
  initialization process of BMP or DLI batch job and on Administer
  Abended/ACTIVE Jobs panel.
