APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • After migrating from CICS TS 4.2 to 5.3 that the READ for
DFHRSTAT uses below the line SET storage.
Because, in CICS TS 5.3, the code added to DFHFCFR caused
pgm_data_location has been initialized to pgis_below when
previously it was not. This field should be being initialised
    to zeros.
    Additional Symptom(s) Search Keyword(s): DFHFCFR,
    pgm_data_location, KIXREVSJH

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS Users. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: GETMAINs issued from DFHFCFR that are *
    * requested by DFHRXSM obtain 24 bit *
    *                      storage incorrectly.                    *
    ****************************************************************
When DFHRSXM is triggered to update DFHRSTAT an EXEC CICS READ
UPDATE SET request is issued followed by a REWRITE. To complete
this request a GETMAIN with remark FCSS SET is required. DFHFCFR
expects to be able to ask the calling program for a data
location, however this is not present for DFHRSXM and therefore
the data location is not set correctly. This results in the
GETMAIN requesting 24 bit storage (below the line) when in
previous releases it requested 31 bit storage (above the line).
The storage is FREEMAINed after the REWRITE which occurs
directly after the READ UPDATE SET so the 24 bit storage is only
held for a very brief period of time.

Problem conclusion

  • DFHFCFR has been altered to ensure that the GETMAIN for remark
FCSS SET obtains the correct storage for the request.
