Error description
When an instance of IIDR CDC for z/OS is configured with the Log Data Cache feature enabled, and then brought up, the cache reader task (DLR) issues an IFI READS request for log data that would continue to extend the data currently in the cache. If it finds that there are no subscriptions active that can use that data, it suspends until a subscription is started. In doing so, it does not release the position in the DB2 Log that was acquired by the IFI READS request it issued. This position remains held, and the log data set remains open until either a subscription starts, allowing progression through the log data set, or the instance of IIDR CDC for z/OS is shut down. This can render a DB2 Log archive data set residing on tape unavailable for other purposes

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of IIDR CDC for z/OS who employ the * * Log Data Cache feature. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: If IIDR CDC for z/OS is started with * * the Log Data Cache feature engaged, and * * no subscriptions are started, the Log * * Reader task of the feature will read * * the DB2 Log, then pause to wait for a * * subscription to use the data. While it * * is pausing, it is holding the DB2 Log * * data set. If this log data set is an * * archive tape, then that data set is not * * available for anything else that may * * need to read it. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: APPLY CORRECTIVE SERVICE * **************************************************************** The Log Cache Data feature may hold DB2 Log data sets for an indefinite amount of time if no subscriptions are running.
Problem conclusion
If no subscriptions are running, the Log Reader task will release the DB2 Log data set it is reading until a subscription needs some data.
