Error description
After upgrading a standalone WebSphere Application Server from v8 to v9 on z/OS, the following error appears in the Servant Region at startup: Trace: 2017/04/20 13:23:30.246 02 t=8CC620 c=UNK key=P8 tag= (13007004) SourceId: com.ibm.ws.session.WASSessionCore.SessionContextRegistry. getSessionContext ExtendedMessage: BBOO0222I: SESN0176I: Will create a new session context for application key default_host/ibm/kc 04/20/17 13:23:30:485 JST [tartup : 1] INFO [ibm.kc.Instance]- Starting KC instance... 04/20/17 13:23:30:490 JST [tartup : 1] WARN [ibm.kc.Instance]- Variable KC_HOME is not defined. java.lang.RuntimeException: Variable KC_HOME is not defined.
Local fix
Manually create the missing WebSphere Variable. The value should be the directory path of the "help" directory within the installed Admin Console war directory, for example: Name: KC_HOME Value: /<WAS_HOME>/systemApps/isclite.ear/isclite.war/help
