Error description

  • After upgrading a standalone WebSphere Application Server from
v8 to v9 on z/OS, the following error appears in the Servant
    Region at startup:

      ExtendedMessage: BBOO0222I: SESN0176I: Will create a new

      context for application key default_host/ibm/kc

    Variable KC_HOME is not defined.
java.lang.RuntimeException: Variable KC_HOME is not defined.

Local fix

  • Manually create the missing WebSphere Variable. The value
should be the directory path of the "help" directory within the
installed Admin Console war directory, for example:

    Name: KC_HOME
    Value: /<WAS_HOME>/systemApps/isclite.ear/isclite.war/help

    ****************************************************************
When the KC_HOME property isn't properly defined in the the
server.xml the Knowledge Center pages will not load in the
Administrative Console. The fix will ensure that the KC_HOME
property is defined correctly in the server.xml.
