    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Error message ADB525E / msgadb525e      *
    * is observed when a new LOB column is *

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    A new LOB column cannot be added through the ALT
    function to a table with existing LOB columns for which
    explicit LOB objects exist. Error message ADB525E
    / msgadb525e is generated:

    ADB525E: A new LOB column cannot be added to a
    table when existing LOB columns exist and all have
    explicit LOB table spaces.

Problem conclusion

  • In the ALT table function, when adding one or more
    new LOB columns, a choice will be presented to either
    create the related LOB objects for the column (LOB
    table space, auxiliary table, and auxiliary index) explicitly,
    or have DB2 create them implicitly, under the following
    conditions:

    - there are no existing LOB columns, or all existing LOB
      columns are deleted in the current session
    - the existing LOB columns all have explicit associated
      LOB objects

    Please review Technote titled: "Alter table add LOB
    column when LOB columns already exist" for additional
    details."
