  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Storage creep in ECDSA. The size of subpool PGPPTE increased
when an user program issued an EXEC CICS DISCARD PROGRAM
    command.
In this case, the customer had an admin trxn that issued
hundreds of program Discards to reduce ERDSA.
The ECDSA went up when the programs were re-installed, a new
PPTE was created for each new definition, in subpool PGPPTE.
The new PPTEs have an eyecatcher ">DFHPGPPTE".
But quick cells for PGPPTE have multiple redundant entries for
each program that has been discarded.
These redundant PPTEs start with spaces (x'40') instead of the
    free cell chain pointer.
In effect, the PPTEs were not being freemained and remained
active. Eventually, the system went Short Of Storage.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Control blocks in ECDSA not being *
    * FREEMAINed, causing storage creep. *
    ****************************************************************
PPTE control blocks are not getting FREEMAINed in certain
    scenarios following discard program commands.

Problem conclusion

  • DFHPGDD is changed so that PPTE storage is FREEMAINed within the
delete_program procedure regardless of how it is invoked.
