PI83777: WCM EMAIL ACTION AND MAIL MODULE FAILS WHEN USING SMTP SERVER WITH STARTTLS OR SSL ENABLED

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• WCM currently does not support using a SMTP server with STARTTLS
  enabled. When this is enabled, email action or mail module
  cannot be used to send any messages.
  
  If STARTTLS is enabled, the following configuration option needs
  to be set to the WCMConfigService resource environment provider
  within WAS (a server restart is also required once the property
  has been set):
  connect.connector.mailconnector.enablestarttls=true
  
  Additionally, the SMTP server may require SSL authentication. If
  required, then also add the property:
  connect.connector.mailconnector.enablessl=true
  

Local fix

Problem summary

• WCM currently does not support using a SMTP server with STARTTLS
  enabled. When this is enabled, email action or mail module
  cannot be used to send any messages.

• A code fix for this issue is integrated into the WebSphere
  Portal & WCM Combined Cumulative Fix 15 (PI83476) for Portal 8.5
