Error description

  • You are running with z/OS Connect and Liberty. While the
environment is mostly idle, after several days CICS reports
messages DFHSM0133 and DFHSM0142, indicating that CICS is
short on storage (SOS). ESDSA was using more than 50MB out
of EDSALIM 100MB, and the storage is filled with the
eyecatcher for the SJLRB control block, ">DFHSJLRBBLK".

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: With idle Liberty JVM server, SJLRB *
    * control blocks get orphaned and are *
    *                      not freed.                              *
    ****************************************************************
When the Liberty JVM server starts up, it will allocate a
number of threads in the thread pool. CICS will create a
new SJLRB (listener request block) for each thread. In an
idle Liberty JVM server, Liberty will often tune the number
of active threads by decreasing and increasing by one.
Every time a thread is deleted, DFHSJTH does not freemain
the SJLRB storage. Over time, CICS may be short on
    storage (SOS).

Problem conclusion

  • DFHSJTH has been changed to freemain SJLRB storage when a
thread is deleted. DFHSJDM has been changed to allocate the
SJLRB and SJLLB subpools in CICS key instead of USER key.
