  • The following errors are seen in the log:
    FFDC1015I: An FFDC Incident has been created:
    "java.io.IOException: Unable to tunnel through proxy. Proxy
    returns "HTTP/1.1 407 Proxy Authentication Required"

    registration with the IBM Cloud Product Insights service
    will be attempted again within 5 minutes. The following
    exception occurred: java.io.IOException: Unable to tunnel
    through proxy. Proxy returns "HTTP/1.1 407 Proxy
    Authentication Required"

    When registering a liberty server with product insights through
    an authentication required proxy then the following errors are
    seen in the log:
     FFDC1015I: An FFDC Incident has been created:
    "java.io.IOException: Unable to tunnel through proxy. Proxy
    returns "HTTP/1.1 407 Proxy Authentication Required"
    com.ibm.ws.cloud.productinsights.common.RegisterTask.run 111"

Problem conclusion

  • SSL tunneling for a proxy connection was not handled properly.
    The problem has been resolved. Additionally, if using  Java 8,
    you may need to set a JVM property to allow basic authentication
    tunneling. Set the property -
    Djdk.http.auth.tunneling.disabledSchemes=''.
    
    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix
    pack 17.0.0.2.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for
