PI81266: THIS APAR FIXES A S0C4 OF HPIC CAUSED BY DYNALLOC FAILURE

APAR status

Error description

• For dynalloc of ICDS which is created by FASTIC COPY process,
  avoids to process WAITALOC and reports the error condition by
  message correctly.
  Dynalloc in this case is not for creating ICDS, but for
  obtaining information, so it it not correct to do WAITALOC,
  Prevents S0C4 in HPIC message handling process.

  *                      message reporting process.              *
  *                      The cause of ABEND is that an internal  *
  *                      control block in HP Image Copy is       *
  *                      broken by the handling logic of         *
  *                      dynamic allocation error.               *

  * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the maintenance for this APAR.         *

  When DYNALLOC macro for the output image copy data sets fails
  in COPY process of Advanced Image Copy services, IMS HP Image
  Copy terminates with ABEND S0C4 ( ABEND0C4 ) in the message
  reporting process.
  The cause of ABEND is that an internal control block in HP
  Image Copy is broken by the handling logic of dynamic
  allocation error.
  This problem relates with two incorrect processes in IMS HP
  Image Copy:
  - When WAITALOC option is used in the COPY process of Advanced
    Image Copy services, DD allocation failure for the image copy
    data set that has been created by DFSMSdss is not checked.
    Then IMS HP Image Copy continues the process.
    As the result, dynamic deallocation process fails due to DD
    name has not been allocated.
  - Reporting error message process for dynamic deallocation
    refers a broken internal control block that is not maintained
    at error check process of the result of DYNALLOC macro.
  

Problem conclusion

• IMS HP Image Copy modifies as follows:
  - For dynamic allocation of the output image copy data set
    which is created by the COPY process of Advanced Image Copy
    services, IMS HP Image Copy ignores WAITALOC=Y and reports
    the error condition by message correctly.
  - IMS HP Image Copy prevents ABEND S0C4 ( ABEND0C4 ) in its
    message-handling process.
  
  By this change, if an error occurs in dynamic allocation, user
  can check the cause of the failure from an error message.
