Error description
At queue manager restart, a dump with the following symptom is created: TITLE: ssid,ABN=5C6-00C91500,U=SYSOPR , -CSQIERS3,M=CSQGFRCV,LOC=CSQILPLM.CSQIERS3 or, if the dump was suppressed by DAE: CSQY291E CSQWDSDM SDUMPX FAILED, RC=00000B08,ssid, ABN=5C6-00C91500,LOC=CSQILPLM.CSQIERS3 followed by: *CSQV086E QUEUE MANAGER ABNORMAL TERMINATION REASON=00D96001 The problem goes back to the prior start of the queue manager where the it was started with an inconsistent set of logs and pagesets. The BSDS and logs were recreated, but the page sets did not have CSQUTIL RESETPAGE run to have RBA values reset as instructed at https://ibm.biz/BdrTh8. That prior start should have received an abend to let the administrator know that the RESETPAGE was missed so that the problem could be corrected then. That would prevent the need for a cold start to resolve the abends encountered during the next start-up. Additional Symptom(s) Search Keyword(s): ABEND5C6 ABENDS5C6 5C6 S5C6 S005C6
Local fix
By the time the 00C91500 error occurs, a cold start will be needed to resolve the problem: - Redefine the BSDS and logs. Reference sample CSQ4BSDS in SCSQPROC--you should have a customized copy of it from when the queue manager was created. - Reformat all the page sets using CSQUTIL with FORMAT TYPE(RECOVER).
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM MQ for z/OS Version 9 * * Release 0 Modification 0. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Various errors occur after the logs are * * reset if RESETPAGE was not run against * * the page sets. These can * * include:5C6-00D10231 * * :5C6-00C90900 * * :5C6-00C91500 * * :5C6-00C90600 * * :5C6-00D10231 * * :Loss of message data integrity * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: None * **************************************************************** When the log RBA approaches the end of the RBA range the logs need to be reset. After redefining the logs CSQUTIL should be run with the RESETPAGE option to reset the log RBA values in all of the page sets. If the RESETPAGE step is omitted, or done incorrectly, and the queue manager is started the incorrect RBA values in the page sets can lead to data integrity errors, and require the queue manager to be cold started to recover.
Problem conclusion
Additional validation is added to detect page sets that have not had RESETPAGE run against them following a log reset. When a page set that requires RESETPAGE to be run is detected message CSQI050E is issued to report this. When this occurs during queue manager restart, queue manager startup is terminated abnormally with abend 5C6-00C94525. When this occurs during DEFINE PSID processing (i.e. readding a page set that had been added dynamically), the DEFINE PSID command fails. The WebSphere MQ for z/OS Version 9 Knowledge center is updated as follows: IBM MQ Reference Diagnostic Messages Messages and reason code for z/OS Messages Data manager messages (CSQI...) (csq_i) https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSFKSJ_9.0.0/ com.ibm.mq.ref.doc/csq_i.htm A new message description is added: " CSQI050E csect-name Page set psid value RESETPAGE needed Severity 8 Explanation The queue manager has detected that a page set contains RBA values higher than the maximum logged. System action During queue manager startup, restart is terminated abnormally with completion code X'5C6' and reason code X'00C94525'. During DEFINE PSID command processing, the command fails. System programmer response Run CSQUTIL with the RESETPAGE utility against the page set(s) indicated in the messages and retry the failed operation. " IBM MQ Reference Diagnostic Messages Messages and reason code for z/OS Codes Data manager codes (X'C9') (codes_c9) https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSFKSJ_9.0.0/ com.ibm.mq.ref.doc/codes_c9.htm A new code is added: " 00C94525 An internal error has occurred. An attempt to restart with a page set that has not had RESETPAGE run was detected. Message CSQI050E is issued before this error occurs. System action Restart is terminated abnormally with completion code X'5C6' and a dump is produced. System programmer response Restart the queue manager after running CSQUTIL with the RESETPAGE option for the page set(s) indicated in the CSQI050E messages
