Error description

  • Customer reported undocumented reason code in message:
    BBOA8103E An error occurred during register with return code 8
    and reason code 393241.
    The reason code in hex is 0x00060019 and is actually constructed
    from two halfwords, both of which have meaning.
    APAR taken to consider reporting return codes like this in
    hex rather than decimal and to make KC updates for any missing
    return / reason code combinations.

    *                      local adapters (WOLA) CICS Link server  *
    *                      get a reason code > 64K                 *

    The reason code returned from a BBOA1REG call made by the link
    server may be made up of a WOLA reason plus a return code
    from a failing internal WebSphere Service. Each occupies a
    1/2 word of the reason code returned. When displayed in the
    error message the reason code is a large number (>64k).
    Which appears to be undocumented.
    

Problem conclusion

  • Return the reason code in hex and in decimal. The lower 2
    bytes of the hex value when converted to decimal will match
    a WOLA reason code. The upper byte(s) will contain the
    return code from the failing service that can be reported
    to support.
    
    APAR PI74491 is currently targeted for inclusion in Fix Packs
    8.5.5.12 and 9.0.0.4 of WebSphere Application Server.
