Error description

  • During DASD Configuration and Monitor processing, GDPS may
incorrectly issue a GEO020E 'Device Size mismatch detected'
error when the device number of an offline device matches the
size (in cylinders) of another device in the GDPS configuration.
This causes GDPS to incorrectly use the device number as the
    size value.
In the reported case, there was a device number 3000 with size
3338 cylinders, which caused device number 3338 to report a size
of 3338 cylinders instead of its actual size of 10016, as seen
in a Netlog message like this:

VPCEDEVC Device pair 02338-03338 size mismatch 00010016-00003338

Local fix

  • Issue a DS QD,dddd,VALIDATE for the devices that are reporting
incorrect sizes. This will need to be done after each IPL.
As an alternative, if the PTF for z/OS APAR OA43706 is
    installed, consider specifying STARTUP OfflineDiscovery(YES)
    in the ANTXIN00 parmlib member.
