Error description
This APAR enhances the FPA Reload function to support checkpoint restart capability for image copy process. You can enable the checkpoint restart option to reprocess only the areas that failed during the image copy process, without reprocessing previously successfully processed areas, by rerunning the same JCL stream that was used in the previous run. This enhancement is being implemented as a result of RFE requirement 32581.

Also, FPA RELOAD function provides a new Process Summary report that summarizes the processing result of each area. This enhancements is being implemented for RFE requirements 32581. 2.This APAR also addresses the following internal defects: 2-1.FPA RELOAD function flaged the area as empty in the DMAC even though there are logically deleted SDEP segments in SDEP portion. 2-2.FPA RELOAD function abended with S0C4 in NOTIFY.IC process when ANALYZE process failed due to insufficient storage. 2-3.FPA RELOAD function hung up when the input areas are different from the output areas. 2-4.FPA UNLOAD function occasionally set incorrect return code in the Process Summary report when the job abends. 2-5.FPA UNLOAD function abended with U4000 when the area names are not specified in ascending order of their area numbers with IAREA keyword, and RESTART=YES is specified. 2-6.FPA UNLOAD function abended with S0C4 then job hung up occasionally when both RESTART=YES and FILECTL subcommand are specified, or when RESTART=YES is specified for restructure mode. 2-7.FPA UNLOAD and RELOAD functions might abend with S0C4 when reprocessing failed areas from NOTIFY.IC process in restart mode, due to a logic error.
Problem conclusion
Temporary fix
Comments
FPA RELOAD function has been modified to support the checkpoint restart option. To enable the checkpoint restart option, specify RESTART=YES keyword in the GLOBAL command and HFPCHKPT DD in the RELOAD step in JCL. FPA?@RELOAD function has been modified as follows: . not to flag the area as empty in the DMAC when there are logically deleted SDEP segments . specify correct RMODE for HFPPRNS0 . issue a user abend when the input areas are different from the output areas FPA?@UNLOAD function has been modified as follows: . set the correct return code in the Process Summary report when the job abends. . continue to process even when the input area names are not specified in ascending order of their area numbers. . GETMAIN the work buffer with correct size. FPA?@UNLOAD function and FPA?@RELOAD function has been modified to remove the logic error to solve the S0C4 abend. ======================== = DOCUMENTATION CHANGE = ======================== The IMS Fast Path Solution Pack for z/OS Version 1 Release 3 IMS High Performance Fast Path Utilities User's Guide (SC19-4010-03).
