When using CDI to inject a JobContext for a Java Batch job, the
context comes from the active job on the thread. If there is no
job currently on the thread, the JobContext will have a null
value. Accessing the injected JobContext in this case is not
properly guarded in some paths, leading to the potential for a
NullPointerException.

Problem conclusion

Code has been modified so that the CDI engine will now inject a
'null' value for a JobContext when no batch job is active on the
thread, for an injection into a bean managed whose lifecycle is
managed by CDI.

Note this still does not necessarily allow a JobContext to be
injected into an EJB when no batch job is active.  But, since
EJB instance lifecycles are managed via EJB pooling, this is of
limited use anyway, since standard CDI scopes can't be used to
control the EJB instance obtained.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix
pack 17.0.0.3.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for
