PI72211: HPEL LOGGING FAILS TO EXPORT THE TRACE FROM THE LOG VIEWER IF THERE ARE SPACES OR A SPACE IN THE DIRECTORY PATH

Error description

HPEL logging fails to export the trace from the log viewer if
there are spaces or a space in the directory path

A message similar to the one below can be seen when the failure
occurs:

SystemErr

File
/C:/Program%20Files/IBM/WAS/
AppServer/properties/WsLevels.properties
can not be found that contains the level specification.

The "%20" character is where the space should be.

Local fix

Use a directory path without spaces or use default WAS logging
instead of HPEL.

1. Install WebSphere Application Server to a path containing
spaces
2. Create an app server
3. Turn on the HEPL logging
4. Go to HPEL Log viewer and export the trace.
5. An error will be shown like below:

File
/C:/Program%20Files/IBM/WAS/
AppServer/properties/WsLevels.properties
can not be found that contains the level specification.

Problem conclusion

Code has been corrected to handles spaces in the path.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 8.5.5.12 and 9.0.0.3.  Please refer to the

Temporary fix

Install WebSphere Application Server to a directory without spac
in the path name.
