APAR status

Error description

• If the Log Data Cache feature is engaged, validity checking by
  the DLR (Log Cache Reader) task attempts to validate that the
  position in the log of the blocks being added to the cache is
  increasing.  In doing so, the logic over-reaches in the length
  of the data being checked, including a portion of data that
  usually increases, but under certain conditions can decrease in
  value.  This will occasionally lead to a false detection of a
  key sequencing error, which causes the DLR task to produce a
  dump.

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When extending the log data cache with  *
  *                      another block of log data, a sequence   *
  *                      check is made to ensure that the data   *
  *                      being added is in increasing sequence   *
  *                      of the log records' position.  The      *
  *                      length of data being compared is longer *
  *                      than need be, and occasionally the      *
  *                      result of the compare is incorrectly    *
  *                      found to be decreasing.  This triggers  *
  *                      the issuing of message CHC9703E and a   *
  *                      dump of the address space is produced.  *

  * RECOMMENDATION: APPLY CORRECTIVE SERVICE                     *
  ****************************************************************
  
  If the Log Data Cache feature is being used, occasionally
  message CHC9703E is issued and a dump is produced.
  

Problem conclusion

• The correct comparison length will be used when validating the
  sequencing of the log records.
