Error description

  • When the FeatureManager re-installs bundles as part of
    processing a feature update and the bundles specify a
    relative
    path in the location directive in the manifest file then the
    Provisioner doesn't detect that the bundle is already
    installed
    resulting in this error:

    org.osgi.framework.BundleException:  A bundle is already

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Feature update process fails when *
    *                      feature's subsystem manifest specifies  *
    *                      a relative path in a location           *
    *                      directive.                              *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    When Equinox stores information about a bundle it uses the
    location as part of the key. If the location directive is used
    to specify a relative path then the key used to store the
    information about the bundle is different to that used when
    looking up the bundle while refreshing the feature for update
    and the code misidentifies the feature as not being installed.
    Subsequent installation of the bundle then fails since it it not
    identified as a reinstall of an existing bundle.

Problem conclusion

  • The provisioning code was modified to use the same keys for
    bundle installation and lookup so that the installation state of
    existing bundles was correctly identified when feature update
    processing occurs.
