Error description

  • A reqmaster operation can succeed when the current master site
of the branch holds a reserved checkout if that checkout was
    made using
      clearfsimport -recurse -master ...

note that checkouts of files by clearfsimport are checkedin
    immediately,
but checkouts of directories are held in checkedout state until
    all files have been imported

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. At site A, start a [large] clearfsimport, using "-master"

(If you're not going to be quick enough to do step 2 before the
clearfsimport completes, then interrupt is with ctrl+C so it
    doesn't complete)

    2. At site B, do a reqmaster for a the branch of one of the
    directories checkedout by step 1

    "reqmaster -list" returns
    No error conditions were detected.

    "reqmaster" returns
Mastership is in transit to the new master replica.

which is the same as if the checkout were done using
    cleartool checkout -unreserved -nmaster

whereas if the checkout were done by "cleartool checkout
    [-reserved]"
     or by "clearfsimport" without "-master"
    then "reqmaster -list" returns
The following would block the "reqmaster" operation at replica
    "original".
At least one checkout prevents the request.
    and "reqmaster" returns:
The following blocked the "reqmaster" operation at replica
    "original".
At least one checkout prevents the request.

The directory checkout cannot be checked back in because
    mastership has been lost

Local fix

  • uncheckout the directory, allowing all new files to be moved to
    lost+found
get mastership back before making a new checkout to move them
    back
