Error description
When migrating to WebSphere 9.0, after the Deployment Manager has been migrated, the BBOWMG3F job fails and these messages are seen: MIGR0302I: The existing files are being saved. MIGR0385I: Starting to save profile default variables.xml com.ibm.wsspi.migration.document.exceptions.NotFoundException: variables.xml .at com.ibm.ws.migration.document.BasicDocumentCollection.createDocu ment(BasicDocumentCollection.java:1042) .at com.ibm.ws.migration.document.BasicDocumentCollection.openReadOn lyDocument(BasicDocumentCollection.java:1209) .at com.ibm.ws.migration.document.BasicDocumentCollection.openDocume nt(BasicDocumentCollection.java:1169) ......... Also, in the node configuration being migrated there is not even one variable defined at the cluster level and therefore there is not a variables.xml file at the cluster level.
Local fix
At the cluster level create a dummy variable via the admin console and then sync this to all related nodes. Then your node migration should proceed without creating a NotFoundException: variables.xml
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of the configuration migration * * tools with clusters, migrating to IBM * * WebSphere Application Server V9.0 * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: WASPreUpgrade fails when a cluster * * exists that does not contain a * * variables.xml configuration file. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** WASPreUpgrade will fail with "com.ibm.wsspi.migration.document.exceptions.NotFoundException: variables.xml". The callstack should include com.ibm.ws.migration.preupgrade.LibrariesClusterCopyDocumentProc essor.instantiateVariables(), otherwise this is not the same problem.
Problem conclusion
The WASPreUpgrade code has been updated to tolerate the case where a cluster does not include a variables.xml directly in its configuration. APAR PI71093 is currently targeted for inclusion in Fix Pack 9.0.0.3 of WebSphere Application Server.
