Error description

  • CDI managed objects are not being cleaned up correctly when
    running Bean Validation through JAX-RS with CDI enabled. An
    analysis of a heap dump will show a very large number of
    BValExtension$Releasable objects with the following
    ownership chain.
    org.apache.cxf.validation.BeanValidationProvider --->
    org.apache.bval.jsr.DefaultConstraintValidatorFactory -->
    org.apache.bval.cdi.BValExtension$Releasable

Problem conclusion

  • The memory leak has been resolved by using the WebSphere Liberty
    constrain validator factory, which properly hooks into Liberty's
    CDI implementation to cleanup managed objects.
