    A new protocol for CF Structure Duplexing of lock structures
    called Asynchronous CF Structure Duplexing is now available
    on IBM z13/z13s as a Parallel Sysplex enhancement for continuous
    availability solution. Asynchronous duplexing use a model where
    the updates to the secondary structure are performed
    asynchronously to the updates to the primary structure.
    DB2 version 12 is going to use asynchronous duplexing of the CF
    lock structure and requires IRLM support to exploit asynchronous
    duplexing protocol.

  • This APAR provides IRLM support to use asynchronous duplexing of
    the CF lock structure with DB2 version 12 with PTF for PI66689.
    
    Currently, only DB2 version 12 will be exploiting this
    functionality via IRLM support.  All earlier releases of DB2
    and IMS using IRLM 2.3, are not going to support asynchronous
    duplexing of the CF lock structure.
    
    Asynchronous duplexing makes duplexing CF lock structures more
    practical, even at extended distances and provides performance
    advantages for duplexing the lock structures.
    
    APAR PI68378 increments function level in IRLM. A new function
    level 40 has been set. DB2 version 12 will require the PTFs for
    this APAR to connect to IRLM. If PTFs for APAR PI68378 are not
    available, DB2 version 12 cannot IDENTIFY to IRLM and it will
    fail to start.
    
    Asynchronous duplexing of the lock structure is turned OFF
    by default. That means, users installing the PTFs for PI68378
    will need to configure the environment to setup asynchronous
    duplexing. It requires changing CFRM policy to add DUPLEX 'mode'
    option along with the lock structure duplexing enabled/allowed
    option.
    e.g. DUPLEX(ENABLED,ASYNC|ASYNCONLY)  or
         DUPLEX(ALLOWED,ASYNC|ASYNCONLY)
    Please refer to XES APAR OA47796 for details on configuring
    the asynchronous duplexing environment.
    
    For DB2 version 12 when support for asynchronous duplexing is
    available, IRLM connection request to the data sharing group
    will turn on asynchronous duplexing of the lock structure.
    The lock structure will remain in asynchronous duplexing as
    long as all connections to it are enabled for asynchronous
    duplexing.
    
    If a lower version of DB2(version 11) member attempts to join
    the data sharing group that was using asynchronous duplexing of
    the lock structure, asynchronous duplexing will be stopped
    by MVS to allow this member to connect to the lock structure.
    When all DB2 version 11 members leave the data sharing group
    while all remaining members do support the asynchronous
    duplexing, disconnect of the last DB2 version 11 member will
    trigger switch-over back to asynchronous duplexing of the lock
    structure.
