  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Customer notices from time to time, an increased amount of CPU
    time logged in Address space RMFGAT, with most of the time
    spent in module IWMI2PVT. The cpu drops back down to normal,
    and is tied to recycling one of the WebSphere for z/OS App
    Servers.
    - Dumps taken during the high CPU showed tens of thousands of
    WLM Enclaves in WLM's Enclave table. Most (nearly all) of
    these are marked 'logically deleted' but the enclaves have not
    actually been cleaned up. Recycling a WebSphere server does
    remove these enclaves from the table, and cpu consumption by
    RMFGAT drops back down to normal.

Local fix

  • Recycle the WebSphere server.

Problem summary

    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application *
    *                  Server V8.5 and V9.0                        *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Memory leak of WLM enclaves may occur *
    * when work does not run in the workload *
    *                      manager.                                *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    When an HTTP request submits work to the WebSphere Application
    Server workload manager, various circumstances may prevent the
    work from running. If propagation of the WLM enclave is
    configured, the enclave may never be deregistered or deleted
    causing a memory leak.
