    ABN=052-00000102,U=SYSOPR,C=W9700.800.SSSC-CSQ3IDEN,
    M=CSQ3IDES,PSW=070C10009BB04448,ASID=0002
    .
    abend which has led to the stalling of checkpointing
    by the queue-manager.
    The problem occurs when there is an indoubt unit of
    work in CICS involving MQ, and CICS instructs the
    queue-manager to commit or backout. The queue-manager
    aborts or commits the unit of work, and then starts
    deallocation processing for the thread structure control
    blocks.

    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of WebSphere MQ for z/OS Version 8 *
    *                 Release 0 Modification 0.                    *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Abend 052-00000102 or 052-00000103 can  *
    *                      occur during connect processing, if an  *
    *                      indoubt UR associated with the same     *
    *                      address space is in resolve indoubt     *
    *                      processing at the same time.            *
    *                                                              *
    *                      The error can also lead to the          *
    *                      checkpoint processor hanging,           *
    *                      preventing any further checkpoints      *
    *                      being written to the recovery logs.     *
    *                      This can result in various symptoms     *
    *                      when the queue manager is restarted     *
    *                      including:                              *
    *                      - extended restart times                *
    *                      - Abend 5C6-00E20004 in CSQSVBK, and    *
    *                        queue manager startup failing         *
    *                      - Abend 5C6-00D1032A in CSQJR003, and   *
    *                        queue manager startup failing.        *
    *                      In some cases the lack of checkpoints   *
    *                      in the recovery logs can require the    *
    *                      queue manager to be cold started.       *

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    A timing window exists such that CSECT CSQ3RIS0 may attempt to
    terminate an agent being terminated by CSECT CSQ3RIA0 or
    CSQ3RIM0 during resolve indoubt processing. This results in
    the agent structure being used by 2 different threads, leading
    to the reported symptoms.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The timing window has been eliminated such that a thread will
    not be terminated while resolve indoubt processing is running.
