PI66917: 'NO JAVA VIRTUAL MACHINE WAS FOUND' ERROR WHEN STARTING CQ 9 HELP

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Starting the Help from the windows programs list or from any
    ClearQuest module will fail with the following error:
    
    A Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development Kit (JDK)
    must be available in order to run Help. No Java virtual machine
    was found after searching the following locations:
    ..\..\..\..\..\common\JAVA5.0\jre\bin\javaw.exe
    
    The help.ini file (default location: C:\Program Files
    (x86)\IBM\RationalSDLC\ClearQuest\help\rcp\win\help) contains
    the wrong path to the Java virtual machine.
    
    ClearQuest 9 does not install a JAVA5.0 directory but the JAVA
    directory.
    

Local fix

  • Changing the path in the help.ini file to
    
    -vm
    ..\..\..\..\..\common\JAVA\jre\bin\javaw.exe
    
    will allow the Help to start.

Problem conclusion
