APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • on z/WebSphere some logs are tagged and some untagged. For
    example the console.log is untagged and remains in ebcdic.
    The message log is tagged t ISO8859-1 and is saved in an
    ASCII
    format. This APAR addresses setting the ASCII-TAG for
    HTTP
    Access logs.

Local fix

  • Attempt a translation tool such as e2a (ebcidic to ASCII).

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: HTTP access logs are not tagged on *

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    HTTP access logs can not be read using vi or tail on z/OS
    because they are not tagged.
    HTTP access logs should be tagged ISO8859-1 like messages.log
    so they are readable using vi or tail.
