Error description

  • The WOLA link server does not reconnect to Liberty after the
    Liberty server is stopped or it abended/cancelled. The
    problem
    is more likely if REU=Y is specified.

Local fix

  • This problem is less likely to occur when the value of REU=N,
    sample command = BBOC START_SRVR REU=N Please note, this may
    impact performance.

    * does not re-connect to the Liberty *
    * server after the Liberty server is *
    *                      recycled.                               *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    A WOLA CICS link server running with the REU=Y option has long
    running local comm connections established to a Libety server.
    When the Liberty server is recycled, these connections are all
    destroyed at the same time. A timing window exists where a CICS
    task is trying to establish a new local comm connection at the
    same time these other connections are destroyed. This new
    connection may hang, and prevent the link server from re-
    stablishing communication with the new instance of the Liberty
    server.

Problem conclusion

  • Code was added to fail new local comm connection requests when a
    Liberty server is being recycled.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix
    pack 16.0.0.2. Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for
    delivery information:
    http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&uid=swg27004980

Temporary fix

  • Using the REU=N option on the CICS link server, greatly reduces,
    but does not eliminate, the chances of seeing this problem.
