APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Getting this exception when having the # in the filepath.

    For example,
    setProperty("javax.net.ssl.keyStore","c:\\test#1\\keyFile.p12");

    org.apache.soap.util.net.post: Caught exception
    java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException
    org.apache.soap.util.net.post: Target exception
    javax.net.ssl.SSLException: SSLSocketFactory is null. This can
    occur if javax.net.ssl.SSLSocketFactory.getDefault() is called
    to create a socket and javax.net.ssl.* properties are not set.
    org.apache.soap.util.net.post: Throwing IllegalArgumentException

    ---

    The cause is that it open the keystore path as URL, and the "#"
    is excluded for URL address. This was done to support the
    keystore file at remote location.

Local fix

  • rRemove "#" from the path, it was able to connect to WAS server
    without exception

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application *
    *                  Server SSL connections.                     *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A javax.net.ssl.SSLException error      *
    * occurred when a "#" is in keystore or *
    *                      truststore filepath.                    *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Avoid using the "#" in keystore filepath. *
    ****************************************************************
    The cause is that the security runtime opens the keystore path
    as a URL. In URL addresses, "#" is the fragment delimiter.

Problem conclusion

  • Security runtime code has been updated to handle a local
    keystore filepath that contains the "#" character.
