Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All Users of Program Restart Facility V2R2 * * who use the IMS Catalog Populate and Import * * utilities. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Customers who use the IMS Catalog * * Populate or Import utilities and who * * also use the Program Restart Facility * * can encounter ABEND0C4 at various * * offsets in several modules called by * * these utilities. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The Catalog Populate and Import utilities ATTACH parts of themselves to run in the IMS Region Controller (DFSRRC00). This causes the Program Restart Facility to get called in environments where it is installed. The Program Restart Facility protects itself from user applications by ATTACHing the user application in a way that causes subpool zero to be non-shared. In the case of the Catalog Populate and Import utilities, the ATTACHed part of the utility allocates storage that the main process expects to share. Once the ATTACHed part of the utility ends, this storage is automatically freed due to the ATTACH options which cause subpool zero to be non- shared. When the main process attempts to access this freed storage, the abend occurs. In addition, these utilities can call the Region Controller multiple times in the same job step. PRF does not support being called in this way.
Problem conclusion
The Program Restart Facility will check to see if the job step task is one of the IMS Catalog Populate or Import utilities. If so, the Program Restart Facility will de-activate itself.
