APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • We observe a manifest with import-package dependencies using
    utf8 multibyte characters.
When such a character hits the 72 byte boundary, JDK
    manifest
    writer cuts through the multi-byte.
Liberty does not seem to read the import-package dependency
correctly, as it fails to resolve it.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Bundle manifest files with double byte *
    * UTF characters are parsed incorrectly *
    * when a jar manifest line continuations *
    * splits a double byte UTF character. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
When a bundle manifest files contains double byte UTF characters
the OSGi framework implementation will incorrectly parse a
double bytes UTF character if the character is split with a jar
manifest line continuation such that the first character is on
one line and the second character is on another line.

Problem conclusion

  • The OSGi framework implementation has been fixed to properly
parse bundle manifest files that contain double byte UTF
characters that are split with a jar manifest line
    continuation.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix
pack 8.5.5.9. Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for
    delivery information:
    http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&uid=swg27004980

Temporary fix

  • Avoid double byte characters in bundle manifest headers or
ensure that the double byte characters are not split with a jar
manifest line continuation such that the first character is on
one line and the second character is on another line.
