Error description

  • RC=2120(MQRC_CONVERTED_MSG_TOO_BIG/MQRC_TRUNCATED) returned to
the MQGET with convert after migrating to V7.1.
    - Problem occurs when the user data includes DBCS character.
L3 recreated the problem and found:
CSQAIVS6 uses the ?convert_fields macro, but this sets
both the input and the output buffer lengths to the size of the
input data, i.e. it does not allow for expansion - the message
in question is 4006 bytes after conversion.

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
The customer reported that an IMS message (format
MQFMT_IMS_VAR_STRING) failed in MQGET with convert with RC=2120
    (MQRC_CONVERTED_MSG_TOO_BIG).
The problem occurs due to CSQAIVS6 not anticipating that the
message may expand due to the insertion of SO/SI (in the
reported case the conversion was from CCSID 943 to 5046),
    resulting in the MQRC 2120.
A similar problem exists for RFH1 messages.

Problem conclusion

  • CSQAIVS6 now uses ?convert_fields with the OUTMAX parameter to
allow the whole message to be converted successfully.
The same has been done for CSQARFH6.
