Error description
During 'SYSPLEX='CF NORMAL' operation GDPS may experience false RC=8 and messages GEO064E, GEO117I, and GEO317A. This may take place if message IXC545I is delivered by z/OS to a system other than the one where z/OS command "SETXCF START,REALLOCATE" is submitted. SYSPLEX='CF NORMAL' STARTED STARTED GEO064E (56893) COMMAND REALLOCATE UNSUCCESSFUL, CHECK IN IXC359I MESSAGE RESULTS GEO066I (56893) SETXCF START,REALLOCATE NOT OK' GEO117I GDPS SCRIPT EXECUTION ERROR GEO317A SYSPLEX CF NORMAL RC=8 REPLY 'ACCEPT' TO CONTINUE OR 'CANCEL' TO CANCEL ACTION/SCRIPT nnn GEO118A REPLY 'ACCEPT','CANCEL' OR 'REPEAT'(QUESTION) GEO066I (56893) END COUPLING FACILITY MANAGEMENT WITH STATUS FAILED SYSPLEX='CF NORMAL' ENDED RC=8
Local fix
Check other participating members of sysplex for IXC545I. If Exceptions reported on that message is zero, processing can continue (REPLY ACCEPT to GEO317A). If Exceptions is nonzero, find any IXC546I messages in the log to determine the name of the CF structures for which REALLOCATE processing could not complete, or use DISPLAY XCF,REALLOCATE,REPORT for the same purpose to determine what CF structures might need manual attention. ADDITIONAL SYMPTOMS: Customer attempting CF NORMAL with a deactivated backup CF lpar defined may experience following as well: VPCESPM4: CFname not available, check attempt # 'GEO066I END COUPLING FACILITY MANAGEMENT WITH STATUS FAILED' IRX0026I Error running VPCESPM4, line 402: Invalid whole number 'SYSPLEX='CF NORMAL' ENDED RC=8 This apar will also address the rexx error and RC8 from CF NORMAL where a defined backup CF is found deactivated during execution of the script.

Problem conclusion
GDPS code has been changed as follows: 1- processing of the z/OS response to SETXCF START,REALLOCATE has been modified to ensure the results are captured. 2- processing is changed to ignore CFs that are deactivated at the time the SYSPLEX='CF NORMAL' is executed.
Temporary fix
Missing message IXC545I: Check other participating members of sysplex for IXC545I. Deactivated CF defined: Remove deactivated CF from GDPS Sysplex definition panel before running the script and add it after.
