APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When using MVSDS in IBM HTTP Server V9.0, a shared ENQ is
created and not released for datasets that are browsed.

D GRS,C will show the GRS contention

Local fix

  • The only way to release the ENQ is to recycle the IHS instance.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users of IBM HTTP Server (powered by *
    *                  Apache) on z/OS                             *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: If mod_mvsds is configured to serve *
    * datasets over HTTP, those datasets *
    * may not be closed properly. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply this fix if using mod_mvsds *
    ****************************************************************
In IHS 9.0 / Apache 2.4, some cleanup work during request
processing may happen on a thread that differs from the thread
that originallly opened the requested Dataset.
Unfortunately, z/OS does not support a file descriptor
representing a dataset being opened on one thread and closed n
    another.

Problem conclusion

  • IHS was updated to disable the optimization that lets cleanups
run on a separate thread when the source of the response is
    mod_mvsds.

This fix is planned for IBM HTTP Server fixpacks:

     - 9.0.0.0-PI49954 (z/OS only)

Note: This issue does not apply to previous releases of IBM
    HTTP Server.

Temporary fix
