PI49143: FLOW MANAGER SHUTDOWN CODE CAN BE EXECUTED DURING ADMINISTRATION OF STOPPED FLOWS RESULTING IN UNINTENDED DATABASE INTERACTION

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When a broker message flow ist stopped and a broker
  administration command is received for this stopped flow,
  FTM shutdown code can to be executed in circumstances
  which are not expected, and can cause unnecessary database
  interaction.
  This needs to be avoided.

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Redeployment of flows that have been    *
  *                      stopped can cause deployment hangs or   *
  *                      delays.                                 *

  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

  IBM Integration bus administers all flows from a 'started'
  state.
  When a stopped flow is administered, the flow is first started
  in a special locked state.
  FTM code that runs when a flow is stopped/removed was not coded
  to anticipate this scenario.
  

Problem conclusion

• Financial Transaction Manager has been changed as follows:
  
  The code that runs during shutdown is now enhanced such that
  it does not run unless the flow has been fully started.
  This removes unnecessary database updates while
  redeploying 'stopped' flows.
