Error description

  • When you are running a build in an IBM Rational ClearCase
    dynamic view, you may experience a Microsoft STOP error (BSOD)
    if you have enabled the cache manager in the MVFS and have
    Symantec 12.1.6 installed.

    WORKAROUND:

    This solution contains information about modifying the system
    registry. Before making any modifications to the Microsoft
    Registry Editor, it is strongly recommended that you make a
    backup of the existing registry. For more information describing
    how to back up the registry, refer to Microsoft Knowledge Base
    article KB256986

    Change this setting in the Windows registry to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Mvfs\Parame
    ters
    "UseCacheManager"=dword:00000000

    This requires a reboot.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * When using dynamic views on Microsoft Windows, after some *
    * time the system may crash with a system STOP error (BSOD). *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    This crash is caused by a memory leak of data structures used in
    ClearCase. These structures are allocated when a system thread
    impersonates the credentials of a user, to do work on behalf of
    that user process. Some applications such as anti-virus
    scanning software may make this type of operation happen more
    frequently.

Problem conclusion

  • A memory leak condition is fixed in ClearCase 8.0.0.17 and
    8.0.1.10, to eliminate this cause of system crashes.
