PI43180: IMS HANG DURING COLD START - DFSIP300 CALLED DFSIWAIT

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Cold start hang.  The savearea flow for Restart task is:
  DFSIRST0, DFSRST00, DFSRPS20, DFSRRSC0, DFSRIMP0, DFSIP300,
  DFSIWAIT.
  IMS coldstart from IMSRSC repository hangs as IMS is not
  handling the error rc/rsn of RRC_LIST/RRC_LISTSOME
  when returned by RM in the last-1 response buffer.
  

Local fix

Problem summary

  * All IMS V14 users of IMSRSC repository, who do an IMS        *
  * COLDSTART and RRSN_LISTSOME is returned from RM from the     *
  * CSLRPQRY request in the last-1 buffer.                       *
  ****************************************************************
  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
  * IMS hangs during IMS Cold Start when IMS gets error rc/rsn   *
  * of RRC_LIST/RRSN_LISTSOME that is returned by RM in the      *
  * last-1 buffer.                                               *
  ****************************************************************
  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
  * INSTALL CORRECTIVE SERVICE FOR APAR/PTF                      *
  ****************************************************************
  IMS is not handling the error rc/rsn of RRC_LIST/RRSN_LISTSOME
  when returned by RM in the last-1 buffer.
  This is a timing issue. If DFSIP300 is not waiting already for
  DFSRPS30, IMS coldstart completes but RM is not freeing up the
  storage and RPRQ is waiting for IMS to retrieve the buffers.
  
  If DFSIP300 is waiting then DFSRPS30 is not posting DFSIP300 and
  the call to RM to obtain the last buffer is not being made.
  The error is because DFSRPS30 is terminating the RM CSLRPQRY
  request when it sees a rc/rsn of RRC_LIST/RRC_LISTSOME even
  though this is not the last response buffer.
  

Problem conclusion

• DFSRPS30 has been enhanced to handle the RM error rc/rsn of
  RRC_LIST/RRSN_LISTSOME.
  
  
  
  CSLRRL10 is modified to pass back the user data for error
  completion code RRC_LIST/RRSN_LISTSOME.
  
  DFSRPS20 is modified to pass in the A(DFSRPSSP) as the first
  word of the user data.
