Error description

  • Many "ERROR" level stack traces are shown in the server logs
    like:

    [6/8/15 1:02:50:831 CDT] 0000039b
    com.ibm.elasticsearch.servlet.DataReceiver                   E

     at
    com.ibm.elasticsearch.servlet.DataReceiver.processDataLegacy(Dat
    aReceiver.java:130)

    This output is unnecessarily verbose, and produced at the wrong
    level. It is an expected condition of our code, and as such,
    should be printed at DEBUG level without a stacktrace.

Local fix

  • Output can be suppressed by setting the logger configuration for
    com.ibm.elasticsearch.servlet.DataReceiver to *=none or
    something similar for the application server on which the
    Analytics WAR is running.

    * USERS AFFECTED:                                              *
    * Analytics server may produce frequent ERROR level output in *
    * the debug logs, incorrectly indicating an error has *
    * occurred.                                                    *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * Analytics server relies on correct behavior of the *
    * underlying datastore to reject the insertion of new records, *
    * but was incorrectly producing ERROR level logs to the *
    * application server's debug logs.                             *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    * -                                                            *
    ****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • Install the ifix containing the fix to reduce the verbosity of
    the log output to a more appropriate DEBUG level.

Temporary fix
