APAR status

  • Closed as new function.

Error description

  • Different components within GDPS/GM can issue ping requests for
communication between the K-sys and the R-sys. There is no
coordination of these various ping requests and this can result
in more than one ping request being outstanding at a time,
waiting for reply. Multiple uncoordinated ping requests between
K-sys and R-sys can lead to unwarranted
GEO653E TARGET SYSTEM <IP-address> NOT REACHABLE.

Problem conclusion

Temporary fix

Comments

  • GDPS/GM is changed to serialize ping requests so that a new ping
request is not issued until a reply or timeout from the last
    ping is received.
When pings are not being issued because of serialization, the
following NetLog trace messages can be seen:
(do_ping): Ping wait 1 second, <operator_name> just made a ping.
    or
(do_ping): Ping dropped <operator_name> just made a ping.
    instead of
GEO653E TARGET SYSTEM <IP-address> NOT REACHABLE.
GDPS/GM is also changed to do fewer pings.
