Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: IBM WebSphere Application Server full * * profile Versions 8.0, 8.5.5 and Liberty * * Profile users of the National Center for * * Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) Access * * Log * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: NCSA log does not have a directive to * * return the elapsed time from * * receiving a request to sending * * first bytes of the response. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Without diagnostic tracing, it is difficult to isolate whether the delay is being caused by a customer network/client issue or during the handling the request by the server, since the %D directive is the elapsed time of the entire request and response exchange.
Problem conclusion
The HTTP Channel NCSA access log was modified to include a directive that represents the service time of the request, from the moment the request is received until the first set of bytes of the response are sent - millisecond accuracy, microsecond precision. To include the request service time in the NCSA access data log, set the HTTP Channel custom property 'accessLogFormat' with the value of %{R}W. Information on how to set HTTP Channel custom properties can be found here: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSAW57_8.5.5/com.i bm.websphere.nd.multiplatform.doc/ae/rrun_chain_httpcustom.html? cp=SSAW57_8.5.5%2F3-19-6-413&lang=en The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 8.0.0.11 and 8.5.5.6.
