PI32354: ABEND04E RC00E20004 ON A -TERM UTIL COMMAND AFTER A RECOVER UTILITY WAS CANCELLED

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• After a RECOVER utility with a huge list of objects was
  cancelled the utility could no longer be terminated.
  The -TERM UTIL command fails with abend04E RC00E20004 in
  DSNSVBK +0718.
  

Local fix

• Reinitialize SYSUTILX.

    User ran RECOVER utility to a prior point in time on a large
  list of objects, many of which had many partitions.
    The job abended in LOGUNDO phase, and a -TERM UTILITY command
  was issued.  The -TERM UTIL command failed with ABEND04E
  RC00E20004 (storage pool exhausted).
    This problem occurred because storage gotten by -TERM UTIL
  that is needed when the utility being terminated is RECOVER in
  LOGUNDO phase was not freed by -TERM.
    This problem could also be seen for the -START DATABASE...
  ACCESS(FORCE) command, and/or for a restart of the utility,
  if performed for a RECOVER utility in LOGUNDO phase.  It could
  also be seen for a -TERM UTIL command on an actively running
  RECOVER utility in LOGUNDO phase.
  

Problem conclusion

•   Code was changed to free storage no longer needed when
  obtained by -TERM UTILITY, -START DATABASE...ACCESS (FORCE),
  and utility restart on a RECOVER utility in LOGUNDO phase.
