Error description

  • After applying PI23535, RMF report shows batch job address
    space swapped-out during MQCONN processing.

     During MQCONN processing, there are two calls made to the
    queue-manager - Identify and Create Thread.

     Change team confirmed from the SLIP dump that even with the
    fix for PI23535 it is still possible for a batch address space
    to be swapped-out during Create Thread processing.

    Additional Symptom(s) Search Keyword(s): storage delay; CPU
    delay   CONNSWAP

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Batch applications are swapped out *
    * during MQCONN processing when *
    *                      CONNSWAP=NO is specified.               *
    * If resources (for example, latches) *

    *                      resources.                              *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    When CONNSWAP=NO is specified, flags are set for batch
    applications to indicate that they should be made non-swappable
    for the duration of MQI calls.
    The flags that control this are set during create thread
    processing in MQCONN, however there is a window in which the
    application can be swapped out during create thread, as the
    flags are not yet set.

Problem conclusion

  • The flags for CONNSWAP are set earlier in MQCONN processing,
    removing the window where the application can be swapped out
    during create thread while holding latches.
