Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of IBM HTTP Server 8.5 on z/OS with * * mod_deflate_z.so loaded * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When mod_deflate_z is loaded to exploit * * zEDC hardware offload, it gives no * * indication if hardware offload was used.* **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply this fix if using mod_deflate_z.so * * and curious whether zEDC is used. * **************************************************************** When mod_deflate_z.so is used for compression, the z/OS customized version of libz may still use a software implementation.
Problem conclusion
mod_deflate_z now records whether hardware offload was used on a request-by-request basis in the 'zEDC' environment variable. This variable can be logged by specifying the following logformat: %{zEDC}e The fix is targeted for IBM HTTP Server fixpacks: - 8.5.5.5
