Error description

  • On WebSphere Application Server V8.5.5, the following behavior
    is noticed:

    1)  INVITE received.

    2) After passing through a proxy application the INVITE is
    sent out.

    3) Get 180 to the INVITE

    4) The container generates a CANCEL because the far-end hasn't
    sent a 200 OK.

    5) After the container sent the CANCEL it generates a 408 to
    the INVITE and gives it to the second invocation of the proxy
    application as a branch response.

    6) Proxy application logs result of getLocalAddr/getLocalPort.

    7) Proxy application logs result of
    getRemoteAddr/getRemotePort

    8) The second invocation of the proxy app gets the 408 as a
    final response.

    In steps 6) and 7) the container returns the IP address of the
    server it's running instead of null. The javadoc states it
    should return null if the container generated the response.

    *                      getRemoteAddr/Port return IP address    *
    * for locally generated messages. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    According to Java SIP Servlet API, the SipServletMessage
    getLocalAddr/Port and getRemoteAddr/Port methods should return
    null for locally generated messages. The SIP Container
    returned the IP address, which is against the specification.

Problem conclusion

  • When any of the methods getLocalAddr/Port and
    getRemoteAddr/Port are invoked, the SIP Container returns null
    if a message was locally generated.
    To enable this fix, the following custom property
    "locally.generated.msg.javadoc.impl" must be set to true.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix pack 8.5.5.5. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
