Error description

  • The QMGR ABENDs with 5C6-00C510AB after a dynamic allocation
    hang problem outside of MQ.

A GRS display showed one TCB waiting for the SYSZTIOT ENQ,
which was held by another TCB that was in dynamic allocation for
    archive log data set.

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
During structure connection processing, the structure task will
attempt to connect to the SMDS for the structure, and requires
the SYSZTIOT ENQ in order to do so.
During log offload processing it is possible for the allocation
of the archive log dataset to suspend while holding the SYSZTIOT
ENQ due to the necessary tape subsystems being unavailable.
In this situation the structure task will suspend until the
log archive processing releases the ENQ, and consequently
delaying applications attempting to use shared queues on the
    structure.
If the structure task is required to respond to an XCF event,
it will be unable to do so until the ENQ is released and
processing resumed, which can lead to XCF detecting a connector
hang and abending the task S026-08118001 or S026-08118002 and
can lead to abnormal queue manager termination.

Problem conclusion

  • When connecting to the SMDS for a structure, CSQEDSI3 will
attempt dynamic allocation of the SMDS conditionally on the
    SYSZTIOT ENQ being available.
If the ENQ is unavailable after several retries have been
made CSQE222E will be issued to report the failure, and the
SMDSCONN will be changed to STATUS(ALLOCFAIL) AVAIL(ERROR).

Applications attempting to put or get large messages on the
SMDS will fail with MQRC_DATA_SET_NOT_AVAILABLE (MQRC 2561)
until the ENQ is released and the SMDS connection is
    successfully made.
