APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Performance degradation due to an excessive amount of IRTMSG
    processing in PRF 2.2. IRTRFE13 calls IRTMSG multiple times
    to write DEBUG IRT000I messages even though DEBUG is not in
    use (no IRT$DBG DD statement). Unneccessary IRT000I messages
    are written to an in-core DEBUG table resulting in increased
    CPU and decreased performance.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Tracing module IRTMSG processes trace *
    * messages even though tracing DD ITR$DBG *
    *                      is not present.                         *
    *                                                              *
    * Remove extraneous calls to IRTMSG. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Module IRTMSG is changed such that it does not process trace
    messages (IRT000I) when tracing DD IRT$DBG is not present.

    Various modules changed to remove extraneous calls to IRTMSG.

Problem conclusion

  • System performance is improved when tracing DD IRT$DBG is not
    present in the JCL because module IRTMSG does not process trace
    messages.

    System performance is improved when IRTMSG is not called
    extraneously.
