Error description
GDPS SMF RECORD 105 SUBTYPE 2 LSS SECTION reports null value in fields SMF105LTV,SMF105LPV,SMF105LSV,SMF105LUV,SMF105LCV, SMF105LJV,SMF105LFV when number of volumes in LSS is 256.
Local fix
The problem occurs only when the LSS volume count is 256. No local or temporary fix except removing one volume from the GDPS global mirror configuration.
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: GDPS/GM MGM SMF record 105 * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: GDPS SMF RECORD 105 SUBTYPE 2 LSS * * SECTION reports null value when number * * of volume mirrored in LSS is 256. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** GDPS SMF RECORD 105 SUBTYPE 2 LSS SECTION SMF105LTV, SMF105LOV, SMF105LPV,SMF105LSV,SMF105LUV,SMF105LCV, SMF105LJV, SMF105LFV are null when number of volumes in Global Mirror LSS is 256. These fields are one byte length, '00'x to 'FF'x implies decimal value of 256 LSS is not supported. For downward compatibility reason, these SMF subfields content have to remain unchanged and a new set of fields are required to support such GDPS/GM MGM configuration setting. The problem does not occur for installation with less than 256 volumes defined per LSS.
Problem conclusion
This PTF changes macro GEOMSMF, which maps the SMF type 105 record that contains information from the Global Mirror monitor The macro can be found in the SGDPSAMP macro library. The changes affect record subtype 2. If you have locally written programs that use this macro, they will need to be modified accordingly in order to function correctly. Similarly, if you have a vendor-supplied program that processes SMF type 105 subtype 2 records, you will need to obtain an updated version of the program to handle the modified record format. The flag byte field SMF105DFL provides the new record trigger information. When this flag is set to x'01', LSS volumes count is stored in new two bytes fields SMF105LxxM. The CSV formatter utility has been changed to support the new SMF 105 record subtype 2.
