Error description

  • When doing lookups on a Queue connection factory for creating
    connections through the JMS Thin Client for Websphere
    Application Server V8.5.5, a memory leak can be observed on
    com.ibm.ejs.ras.TraceComponent and
    java.util.concurrent.ConcurrentHashMap.  This memory leak
    occurs on the client side JVM.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: OutOfMemory caused by leak in *
    *                      com.ibm.ejs.ras.TraceComponent in the   *
    *                      client container                        *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    In the client container path (thin clients), when doing a
    lookup of a J2C resource like JMS Connection factory, the J2C
    code ends up creating a com.ibm.ejs.ras.TraceComponent to be
    used with the ManagedConnectionFactory. So every lookup
    results in the creation of a new
    com.ibm.ejs.ras.TraceComponent to be used with the
    ManagedConnectionFactory and over a period these
    TraceComponent objects keep accumulating and can cause a
    memory leak.
    Note : This memory leak is observed only in the client
    container (thin client) path.

Problem conclusion

  • The J2C code has been corrected to handle the creation of the
    com.ibm.ejs.ras.TraceComponent in the client container path
    appropriately.
