Error description

  • When you are working in an IBM Rational ClearCase remote dynamic
view that is hosted over NFS4 on Red Hat Linux 6, you may
receive the following error when you attempt a checkout:

    [usercc@RHEL63x64 vobstore]$ ct mount /vobs/vob1
    [usercc@RHEL63x64 vobstore]$ cd /vobs/vob1/
    [usercc@RHEL63x64 vob1]$ ls
    lost+found
    [usercc@RHEL63x64 vob1]$ ct co -nc .
Checked out "." from version "/main/0".
    [usercc@RHEL63x64 vob1]$ ct mkelem -nc a.txt
    Created element "a.txt" (type "text_file").
cleartool: Error: Checked out version, but could not copy data
to "a.txt" in view: Permission denied.
Correct the condition, then uncheckout and re-checkout the
    element.
cleartool: Error: Unable to check out "a.txt".

    WORKAROUND:

    None.

Problem conclusion

  • The problem was caused by an extra open attempt being sent to
the NFS4 server. The cleartext file creation was modified to
    prevent that condition.

A fix is available in ClearCase versions 8.0.0.12 and 8.0.1.5
