Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server with Java EE web modules containing * * EJB jars. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: After updating a deployed web module * * which contains an EJB jar, the * * application start can result in the * * error: InjectionProc E CWNEN0044E: * * A resource reference binding could * * not be found for...... * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The ibm-metadata.xml file contains a list of annotated classes found in the web module which are of significance to the module. This list is generated during the annotation scan process. When an EJB jar is included in the web module, a second annotation scan of classes significant to the EJB module is completed. The set of classes which is significant to the EJB module is different from the list for the web module. The results of the annotation scan are saved to ibm-metadata.xml at the conclusion of each scan and what has happened is that the scan for the EJB jar is completed last and the results from that are saved, resulting in an incorrect list of annotated classes. When the application is started, information from ibm-metadata.xml is used to configure the web module leading to the described error when a EJB resource reference from an incorrect class is processed.
Problem conclusion
The annotation scan process has been updated to correctly merge the results from both the web module and EJB jar scans prior to saving to ibm-metadata.xml. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 8.5.5.5.
